Can you play Buffalo free? The official apps, and what they cannot tell you

Yes. You can play Buffalo for free in two social casino apps from Product Madness, the mobile games studio Aristocrat owns: Heart of Vegas and Lightning Link Casino. Both run on virtual coins, and both say in their store listings that they offer no real-money gambling and no chance to win real money or prizes. Free play is a good way to learn the feel of the free games, but it tells you nothing about the payback of any casino’s real-money version.

Which apps carry Buffalo?

As of October 2026, the store listings name Buffalo in these two apps:

• Heart of Vegas (Product Madness, Apple App Store): lists “Buffalo Slots” among its games, alongside titles such as Lightning Link and Queen of the Nile.
• Lightning Link Casino (Product Madness, Google Play): lists Buffalo and Buffalo Gold, plus Dragon Link, High Stakes and Tiki Fire.

Game lineups in social apps change, so check the app’s lobby before you download it for one title. Both listings set the age at 18 and over, but real-money online casinos in the US states that allow them require you to be 21.

Free here means free to start. Both apps offer in-app purchases, and Heart of Vegas lists coin packages for sale. Coins you buy cannot be cashed out, so money spent on them is spent on entertainment, with nothing to withdraw. If you buy coins, set a limit the same way you would for real-money play.

What free play shows you

A social version is a fair way to get familiar with the parts of Buffalo you can see:

• the stampede theme, the sound and the pace of the reels;
• the coin scatters that start the free games, and the 8, 15 or 20 games they award in the real-money rules;
• how the sunset wild substitutes and, during free games, multiplies wins.

If you have only played Buffalo on a casino floor, that is a free way to see how the screen layout and controls feel on a phone before deciding whether to play for money.

What free play cannot tell you

• The RTP. Real-money Buffalo runs at 91.821% or 94.724% depending on the casino’s configuration. The app listings publish no payback figure for their versions, so a long session in an app tells you nothing about what a casino’s version returns. Our Buffalo RTP and volatility page explains the real-money settings.
• Which version you are playing. The listings do not say whether their Buffalo matches the online casino game, the floor game or neither.
• How often bonuses will land for money. A run of bonuses in an app predicts nothing. Both listings warn that practice or success at social casino gaming does not mean future success at gambling.

Is there a free demo at real-money casinos?

We have not been able to confirm that regulated US online casinos offer a free demo of Buffalo. Before assuming one exists, check the game’s tile in your casino’s lobby for a demo or practice option. The two apps above are the only official free versions we could verify.
