Wheel of Fortune slots online: IGT's game-show slot and its US versions

Wheel of Fortune slots are IGT’s licensed game-show slots, on American casino floors since 1996, and online they are not one game but a set of separate titles. At least one version is offered for real money in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia, to players 21 and over who are physically inside the state. Each version has its own reels, its own wheel bonus and its own published RTP, from 92.50% to 96.60%.

Where the Wheel of Fortune slot came from

IGT builds the games under license from Califon Productions, the rights holder named in the copyright line of every online version’s rules screen. IGT dates the series to 1996, and in a June 2023 announcement it said Wheel of Fortune slots had made more than 1,100 millionaires and paid more than $3.4 billion in jackpots since that launch. Those are IGT’s own figures.

On May 31, 2023 IGT linked floor and online play for the first time in the US. It launched a wide-area progressive in New Jersey that tied an online game, Wheel of Fortune Triple Gold Gold Spin, to 18 land-based $1 Wheel of Fortune themes, with a $500,000 reset. IGT called it the first omnichannel wide-area progressive in the country. Whether that link still runs could not be confirmed, so treat it as a 2023 launch rather than a standing offer.

Which Wheel of Fortune slots can you play online?

There is no single online “Wheel of Fortune” slot. As of October 2026, Borgata Online’s game-help library lists 13 Wheel of Fortune titles. The six covered in depth on this site are:

• Triple Extreme Spin. 720 ways, three wheels and up to seven pointers. BetMGM also runs its own branded edition with the same rules.
• On Tour. 30 lines and a wheel that gains slices as your progress builds from one session to the next.
• Megaways. Built with Big Time Gaming, with up to 117,649 ways in the base game.
• Ruby Riches. 30 lines, instant cash prizes and a seven-pointer wheel.
• Hawaiian Getaway. 25 lines and a wheel whose Pointer Frenzy slice adds extra pointers.
• Ultra 5 Reels. 30 lines, multiplying wilds and a three-wheel bonus.

The others in that library include Diamond Spins 2x Wilds, Power Wedges, Elegant Emeralds, Shimmering Sapphires, Lucky Coins on Stage and Gold Spin Triple Red Hot 7s, a stepper-style game with a progressive jackpot. The versions and how each plays sets the main six side by side.

How the wheel bonuses and payback differ

Every main version builds its bonus around the wheel, but the route there changes. In Triple Extreme Spin you pick envelopes that place pointers on three wheels. In Ruby Riches your bet decides how many of seven pointers are live. In Megaways the wheel sets how many ways your free spins start with. How the bonus wheels work takes each one step by step.

Payback differs just as much. Published RTPs run from 92.50% to 96.60%, On Tour’s figure climbs as you reach new levels, and IGT rates only the Megaways version for volatility, calling it high. RTP and volatility by version has the full table and the jackpot eligibility rules, and our guide to progressive jackpots explains how linked jackpots work online.

Where Wheel of Fortune slots are legal for real money

Real-money online casino play is legal in only a handful of states, and you must be 21 or older and physically inside one of them while you play. For Wheel of Fortune, operator evidence confirms at least one version in four states:

• New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia. BetMGM launched Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin in all four on April 17, 2024, on BetMGM, Borgata and its Wheel of Fortune Casino site.
• New Jersey also hosted the 2023 omnichannel progressive launch.

Caesars Palace Online and Bally Casino also publish Triple Extreme Spin game pages; Bally’s site does not say which of its states carry which titles. Lobbies change, so where to play Wheel of Fortune slots online tracks the versions state by state.

Can you play Wheel of Fortune slots free?

Yes, in a social app with no cash prizes. DoubleDown Casino’s App Store listing names Wheel of Fortune slots, although IGT’s license to DoubleDown is in dispute. Playing Wheel of Fortune slots free covers what free play shows and what it cannot tell you about the real-money games.

Whichever way you play, decide your budget before the first spin; our responsible gambling page lists the helplines, limit tools and each state’s self-exclusion program. If you are new to the online versions, start with how each one plays.
