On this page
AGS publishes the original online Rakin’ Bacon! at 95.89% RTP and rates it high volatility. Over a very large number of spins the game is designed to return about $95.89 of every $100 wagered, but a single session can finish far above or below that, and the spin-offs run at different settings, from 92.02% to 94.99%. Always check the figure on the rules screen of the version you open.
Published RTP by version
| Game | Published RTP | Volatility | Where the figure appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rakin’ Bacon! | 95.89% | High | AGS game page; Borgata rules file |
| Rakin’ Bacon Odyssey | 92.02%, 94.01% or 94.99% | High | Borgata rules file |
| Rakin’ Bacon Sahara | 92.02%, 94.01% or 94.99% | High | Borgata rules file |
| Jackpots Bonus Wheel | 94% | Medium | Borgata rules file |
Three figures for Odyssey and Sahara mean the game exists in three settings, and the operator chooses which one to run. The rules file lists all three without saying which one a given casino runs, so the in-game help screen is where to confirm it.
What 95.89% means in dollars
These are hypothetical long-run averages, not a forecast for any session.
- 1,000 spins at $1. You wager $1,000 in total. At 95.89%, the game’s design returns $958.90 of that over the long run, so the expected cost is $41.10.
- 500 spins at the $0.88 minimum. You wager $440. At 95.89%, the expected return is $421.92 and the expected cost $18.08.
- The same 1,000 spins on a 92.02% Odyssey. The expected return drops to $920.20, an expected cost of $79.80, nearly double the original’s. At 94.99% it would be $949.90 back and $50.10 lost.
The arithmetic is simple: total wagered times RTP gives the expected return, and the rest is the house’s expected share. The gap between settings is why the version and its RTP are worth checking before you play.
High volatility, and the volatility you choose
High volatility generally means the 95.89% is delivered unevenly: longer stretches of small or no wins, with bigger payouts arriving less often. Over a few hundred spins, real results can land well away from the averages above, in either direction.
The free-games choice adds a second layer. You can take 15 spins on 243 ways or as few as 5 spins on 3,125 ways, and AGS frames this as choosing your volatility. Neither AGS’s page nor the rules file says the RTP changes with the choice, so treat it as a choice about how swingy the round is. The Rakin’ Bacon bonus features lays out the three options.
Jackpots Bonus Wheel sits lower on the scale. Its rules file rates it medium and gives a hit frequency of 31.72%, meaning roughly 32 spins in every 100 return something; a hit can still be smaller than the stake.
Fixed jackpots online, progressives on the floor
AGS lists the original game’s four jackpots as static: fixed prizes whose cost is already inside the 95.89%, with no meter growing from other players’ bets. Jackpots Bonus Wheel shows the split clearly. AGS and BetMGM say the online game awards one of four in-game jackpots, while the same title on a casino floor uses tiered progressives. A floor machine and its online namesake can share a name and still pay their top prizes in different ways. Our guide to progressive jackpots explains the difference.
Check the rules screen, and why floor payback differs
Casinos may run a different version or setting from the ones listed here, and the in-game help screen is the authority for the game in front of you. On a casino floor, payback is set by the casino from the options the manufacturer offers, within the state’s rules, and it is not published per machine, so no online RTP tells you what a floor Rakin’ Bacon pays. Casino floor vs online covers the gap.
